Food Safety

Because children's immune systems are still developing they can become sick fairly easy. It is important to follow food safety guidelines to try and prevent that. The guidelines are very easy!
  • Clean: wash hands and surfaces often
  • Chill: refrigerate promptly and defrost frozen foods in the refrigerator or a cold water bath
  • Separate: don't cross contaminate (using the same knife that you used to cut meat to cut vegetables without washing)
  • Cook: cook food to proper temperatures using an internal food thermometer
    • Beef, pork, lamb and veal steaks, chops, and roasts should be cooked to a minimum of 145 degrees.
    • All ground meats needs to be cooked to a little higher temperature because there is greater potential for bacteria. It needs to be cooked to 160 degrees to be sure all bacteria has been killed.
    • Cook all poultry to 165 degrees.
