Toddler and Preschool age guidelines

During the toddler (1-3) and preschool (3-5) years growth has slowed down immensely in comparison to infancy growth rate. This goes along with their reduced appetite and food intake. As with every stage of life, children in this stage also need adequate calories and nutrients to meet their needs. It is important to start good habits now because the eating and health habits formed will impact habits and health later in life. In order to ensure your child is getting enough nutrients, you should first know the recommendations. So here ya go!

Estimated Energy Requirements (EER)
For children ages 13-35 months: (89 X weight of the infant in kg - 100) + 20
For example, a 24 month old girl weighs 12kg; her EER would be (89 X 12kg - 100) + 20=988 calories
To change from pounds to kg divide lbs by 2.2 then insert this number into the equation

For children ages 3-5 you can use a table based on physical activity level and gender. Here is a fast and easy way to get all the recommendations for your child!!
